God and Sports

“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” 1Timothy 4:8

America has seen what much of the media is truly made of the last year or two. That’s why it came as no surprise for me when I read this article about how most in the media ignore covering God and football. Thankfully, this one journalist decided to write this piece on something I’ve witnessed for 15+ years, in and around Christian sports ministries.

Ironically, the very first professional athlete I would meet back in 2000 was Harry Flaherty. He was (and remains) the State Director for The Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It was at an FCA gathering, where I would meet former NY Giants RB and Two-Time Super Bowl Champion, Lee Rouson. We would go on to co-found “Trinity Financial, Sports & Entertainment Management Company”. This would lead to me meeting George McGovern, who was the Chaplin for the NY Giants and NY Yankees. Before long, George would have me at bible study and chapels for both teams and even allowed me to lead them at times (not bad for a former Jets and Mets fan!). Finally, I would become a national board member of Catholic Athletes For Christ, which has given birth to Cathletes chapter program, led by Dan Duddy (a man who invoked the truest meaning of the forgiveness God came to teach us and should be seen by everyone here).

I very much believe a significant reason my business life was brought to change in 2014, was so I focus even more on Christianity and sports. I believe it’s one of the reasons I was allowed to open our storefront office in Spring Lake. We’ve indeed seen God’s hand already there through our sports relations (not what the stock market may, or may not do)

I like to encourage clients, friends and readers of my blogs, who believe that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, to find out more and participate in Christian sports ministries.

Please noteThis Saturday, we’re hosting a special sports memorabilia sale for the three Christian Sports Ministries mentioned earlier. And on Saturday February 4th, we’ll be attending a FCA Super Bowl breakfast where we provided numerous sports items for their silent auction.
